Match report Big win for 5s in bank holiday heat

On a boiling hot bank holiday Monday, a strong looking 5s side made the trip down to Hythe & Dibden. We won the toss and chose to bat, so Fish and Newitt were sent out to open. However, 10 balls later Fish was bowled out. Prav then went in before promptly being bowled himself, before Newitt, after being dropped at square leg while on 0, and Stanners started building a good partnership. The score had ticked over 110 before Newitt was run out on a handy 39. Stanners departed shortly after for a very solid 70. Advait made a decent 28, before Cuddles and Jal decided to ruin the game as a contest by putting on a near 100 partnership off the last 6 overs, including seven sixes, which resulted in us posting 249/5 from our 40 overs. Cuddles’ unnecessary 57 from 28 put him as front runner for DOD.
Tea was good with an array of sandwiches, cakes and sausage rolls, accompanied by being able to get out of the heat, and an IPL game on the tele.
With the fear of the game being over too quickly MSH and Beermat, playing his first ever game of cricket, opened the bowling. However, MSH was soon taken out of the attack after taking two wickets in his first two overs. Beermat then took a debut wicket in his third over, a moment that surprised him more than anyone, which left Hythe on 15/3. Skanda and Kellingly produced some tidy bowling, which was accompanied by questionable keeping from Newitt. Prav and Advait then rattled through the tail, which included MSH taking a fantastic catch at mid-off. Advait took a 3-fer, and Prav took a debut wicket but could have had more if it wasn’t for a multitude of shoes from Cuddles and Fish. Eventually Hythe batted out their 40 overs for a score of 163/9.
MOM nominations were Advait for his 3-fer, Stanners for his 70, but it was given to Beermat for taking a wicket in his first ever match. There was no question about DOD after Cuddles’ farcical performance in both innings.
MOM – Beermat
DOD – Cuddles
