Cadnam v SUCC 1st XI on Tue 28 Apr 2015 at 18:00

Match report A 1s and 2s mixed eleven turned up to Cadnam again having played there a couple of days before. Apparently 20 overs is not the done thing in midweek cricket and instead we played 18, very village.
Going out to inspect the wicket it was again difficult to see the difference between the pitch and the rest of the square, despite this lack of gardening it was a fairly decent track. Bakes again won the toss and decided that we would have a bat, and just before heading out we were informed that there are also no fielding restrictions in midweek E18s. Opening up was Bakes and Nichols, the latter having been talking up his T20 batting style and comparing himself with AB De Villiers. Big things were expected but I think Baker didn’t quite realise Nichols didn’t mean AB’s athletic ability and soon enough ran him out for 5. This brought Patto to the crease who decided his nurdling days were over and managed to clear the ropes for a six, surprising many at his ability to hit it that far, let alone off the square. When Patto fell, in came Jayden who was already making excuses if he yipped up, a sore finger this time. Thankfully he didn’t and went on to make a quick 23. Meanwhile Baker at the other end was playing some lovely shots and was edging closer to a 50. Warner was next in after Jayden, and I think after regular attendance to BB PT’s sessions the hard work was beginning to pay off. An explosive 30 including 4 sixes ensued to take us up to a very strong score. Unfortunately Bakes fell at the last for a fantastic 47 and we finished on 148-5 off our 18 overs.
After a quick turnaround we went out into, what felt like arctic conditions, the New Forest serving up some horrendous cold winds. Nichols carrying on his arrogance decided that he would stand up to both opening bowlers, CJ and Wellsy, the latter picking up 2 wickets. Warner was obviously still dreaming of his batting at deep cover and somehow completely missed the ball through his legs for 4. A combination of Royals and Beno got one of the openers run out with some slick fielding. First change was Royals and Judas Bantock, Royals picking up an LBW with his straight ball, a display of variation at its very best.. Judas bowled good areas and had very respectable figures of 3 overs, 1 wicket for 9 runs. Then came on the 2 part-time mystery spinners of Patto and Beno, both bowling well but with the odd dodgy ball chucked in to keep things interesting. Bowling was obviously far too much to think about for Patto and decided fielding off his own bowling was taking it too far so getting out the way on a number of occasions was the way forward. With the light fading and the ball too hard to see for Kightley to catch, the boys closed out the game to win by a comfortable margin of 35 runs.
How better to end the day with a team Maccies on burgess road afterwards.
