Cadnam v SUCC 3rd XI on Sun 26 Apr 2015 at 14.00
SUCC Lost by 1 Wicket.

Match report A rather hungover and for the most part rain-expectant 3s side arrived in Cadnam, a village noticeably full of abnormally tall cricket players which was captained by none other than SUCC’s own James Bantock. It was agreed between the two captains that the 3s would bat first, however the Cadnam skipper conveniently forgot to let us know that a new ball was most certainly not available to the side fielding second.
It must be said that our innings started promisingly with our opening partnership of Greg Greg Wise and Alex Stansfield failing to score a run between them. Stanners in particular deserves a mention for being run out before even facing a delivery. From there it was left to Coatsey and CJ to steady the ship, which they did quite convincingly for a few overs, but after being dismissed for 18 and 16 respectively and being followed by Ashley who refused to trouble the score, it is fair to say that the 3s were not in an ideal position at 5 wickets down. (This may or may not have been the result of Bantock’s imposing presence in the covers)
Luckily for us however, Captain Sam Kightley came in at number 6 and continued his fantastic form this season scoring 77 not out and suspiciously triggering Bantock’s removal of himself from key fielding positions… Unfortunately there was little support from the lower order with the exception of Will Bateman who continued to ride his luck from the night before throughout his innings, smashing 38 from a mere 14 deliveries which meant that we somehow ended up with 195 at tea.
It cannot be denied that the Cadnam teas were indeed “quality” as there captain had previously described them, but they were nothing in comparison to the entertainment which was provided by the club’s notorious “Top Shagger” Jonny Coates. His enthusiastic demonstrations of ALL the in’s and out’s of finger banging were truly insightful and in hindsight probably MOM-worthy! I am sure that all who were present managed to learn something new whether it be how best to employ your little finger or how to gain optimum suction from the “clitty”.
After the tea break we took to the field and Wellsy took the new (ish) ball and got us off to a flyer taking two quick wickets and beginning what was soon to become an outstanding spell of bowling. He finished up with figures of 7.5-3-15 and really led our attack. He was supported by Perret, Jones, Sivarajah, Kightley, and Bateman who all chipped in with wickets. However on the whole our fielding performance left a fair amount to be desired and Cadnam kept the scoreboard ticking over, with an especially painful 46 runs coming from the bat of James Bantock. However we somehow managed to take the game to the final over only to completely mess things up as Jonny Coates attempted to run out one of their tail-enders when the ball was practically dead, and Charlie Plummer who was backing up managed to somehow dive underneath the ball, leading to us losing the game by one wicket.
