SUCC 2nd XI v Trojans CC on Sun 04 May 2014 at 14:00
SUCC Won by 29 runs

Match report A few Jesters induced hangovers meant that the U1A was the transport of choice for the 2s first home game of the season, in what appeared to be fantastic cricket weather. With the promise of a cut and rolled deck at Wide Lane, expectations were high (as high as can be at Wide Lane) for a good day of cricket. SUCC were put in to bat with Warner and Paterson opening up. With Pato being caught at third man for 2, Holcombe came to the crease hitting 16 from 22, getting out bowled to a ‘bouncer’. Warner stuck around for a while producing a tidy-looking 30 from 50 deliveries. Once he was dismissed Clark came and went, ruining his previous SUCC average of 63. Hennessy and Kumo were soon together at the crease hitting 56 n.o. and 40 respectively. Brief innings’ from Jonny Jonny Rye and Sanjay meant Wessex finished with 161-7 off of the 45 overs. Strong wingmanning for Fresher Northerner followed as his date for the Vixen’s ball arrived with a few others. Royals and CJ’s walk around the boundary with the Vixen’s was somewhat disturbed when the Trojan’s fixture sec decided to join them. Quote of the day came from Jonny Rye after Amy Duffy does a cartwheel, ‘Ooooh very good!’ (Rye, 2014).
Tea was provided by Sanjay and Holcombe (contribution from Holcombe - none). With a strong rating of 7/10 the only issue was the lack of plates due to Wide Lane’s remarkable lack of facilities. An open hatch meant the search was on behind the bar to try and find some form of eating vessel, but to no avail. A worrying moment followed for Royals as a member of Wide Lane staff asked for the captain, prompting a response of ‘Oh Christ!’ (Royals, 2014), only to find that the match was being played on an as yet unconfirmed pitch due to another Rob Gill cock-up. We were made to feel like schoolboys as we carried the contents of the changing room to the boundary rope after being told the changing rooms will be locked at 6.
CJ and Sanjay opened up the bowling with some tight bowling on an unpredictable Wide Lane surface. Their opener left for 1 after an early run out, with CJ just clipping the outside of the stumps from half a yard, narrowly avoiding DoD. Perrett replaced Sanjay, turning the ball for the first time ever. With Royals at the other end the overs seemed to be slipping away from the Trojans’ batsmen. A stumping for Jonny Rye off of Perrett’s bowling saw their number 2 leave for 38. A couple of big overs later, the game was back on, meaning some tight bowling would be required. This came in the form of Paterson and Warner who took 4 wickets each within a matter of overs finishing off the game nicely for SUCC.
