SUCC Indoor 1st VI v Portsmouth I on Sun 28 Feb 2010 at 13.00
SUCC Won by 48 runs

Match report Having painfully sat through the ladies walk in the park over their anti-cricket counterparts, the crowd awoke to the prospect of another enthralling Scummer v Skate encounter. Unfortunately, due to the fact that Meddle left all the scoring to a thick Pompey moron, some details may be omitted or inaccurate.

Batting first again, Cozier and Zim seemed intent on making a quick start, and 6 no-balls in the first over, plus an imperious six from Cozier, certainly got us well on our way - 26 runs being accrued - and this theme carried on into the second over with three more no-balls and a wide. However it wasn't too long before Zim departed to a run-out (albeit after a fantastic dive that was discussed in reasonable depth in the Stag's post-match). This brought Ben Wadmore to the middle, and he got on his way in his typically efficient, no-frills manner. Cozier on the other hand, looking to please (and kill) the crowd, went to leg but only resulted in hitting the wall above the balcony for the bowler to take a simple return catch. Sam Booth was the next man in but unfortunately played a false shot for 7, and Mills hung around for a while before his inner vacancy cost him dearly - a direct hit running him out while he walked too casually back to the non-striker's end. This left us in a bit of bother, but the Camel is no mug with the bat and he helped Wadmore recover the innings and take the score to a very respectable 158-4. The top scorer was extras, contributing a staggering 91 runs to the total!

Barclay and Zim opened the bowling and kept it fairly tight, bar a few no-balls and wides, and the breakthrough came in the fourth over - Zimmer finding the edge of Skate-Mills for just 3, much to the delight of his adoring female fans on the balcony. Mills' first over didn't start off to well (the 5th over of the match I believe but inept scoring has led to uncertainty) with Oldershaw hitting his second 6 of the match, but pulled it back to concede just 3 more singles. Fresh from his batting heroics earlier in the day, Wadmore was thrown the ball. Despite a couple of no-balls, he produced a fine over, most importantly nabbing the important wicket of Oldershaw for 24. I think this took them to 4 down after a couple of cheap run outs, so confidence was high and victory was in sight. However, that was until Cozier came on to bowl. Bowling around the wicket, he managed to bowl 2 wides and 4 no-balls in what was a costly over. He didn't bowl again surprise, surprise! With the Pompey skipper looking fairly comfortable out there, they needed about 45 from 4 overs. Just as it felt like an upset could be possible, Ben Wadmore bowled a fantastic over - just a solitary single from it, a remarkable feat for any bowler in indoor cricket, let alone for someone that, if rumours are to be believed, wasn't going to bowl. This was backed up well by tight overs from Barclay and Zim, and a run-out somewhere in the mix, and even Stuart Mills was backed to be able to defend 50 in the last over. The first ball was hit for a single, but then the final wicket fell next ball as Dare feathered one through to Booth and victory was ours. Not quite the celebrations of the match before as this one was a whole lot more comfortable, but very satisfying nonetheless.

The was no real competition for MoM: Ben Wadmore. He was the backbone in our innings with a fantastic 28 not out, and he followed this up with 1-9 from his two overs, including the big wicket of Oldershaw, and his second over that went for just one run just as Pompey started to build up hope. DoD was Cozier, simply because of his one disasterous over. Having faced an the opening over of all no-balls, he seemed obliged to return the favour with his over. Fortunately it was only a minor blip in what was a fairly good all-round performance.
